Carpet Protectors
Scotchgard™ Carpet protectors:

Scotchgard™ products are flurochemical treatments developed by 3M.  Many new carpets are Scotchgard™ protected at the mill, or following
manufacture.  The treatment surrounds each fiber with a protective coating. Scotchgard™ Protector improves the fibers resistance to oil and water-
based stains, as well as soiling from everyday use.   Regular use and foot traffic can remove some of the protector, and when carpets are cleaned,
some of the protection is cleaned away as well and a re-application is recommended to keep your carpets looking their best.

- Carpet protector helps carpet fibers resist soiling.
- Helps spills blot up before they become stains.
- Helps stains release more easily when carpet and upholstery are professionally cleaned.
- Helps carpet and upholstery stay cleaner longer.
- Effective against fruit drinks, soft drinks and frozen fruit treat.
- Improves Vacuuming. Vacuuming is actually more effective with Scotchgard™ Protector. Dirt is more easily picked up, and fewer passes are
required with the vacuum.
- Carpet protector helps keep dry soil and oily soils from sticking to the carpet fibers making vacuuming more efficient.

When to apply: Reapplying after every cleaning enhances the protection of the treatment.  Carpet & fabric protectors will provide long lasting
benefits, however, performance will diminish somewhat over time with each steam cleaning, so applying carpet protector after cleaning restores
your carpets ability to resist spills, stains, give up the dirt during vacuuming. DUCTZ can properly apply Scotchgard ™ protector. For optimal soil and
stain protection, 3M recommends that Scotchgard Protector be reapplied after hot water extraction cleaning.

Do I really need to have a protector applied?
A nylon stain-resist carpet is made with two protective properties: The first is an acid dye blocker that helps to keep “dyes” from soft drinks,
beverages etc from penetrating the carpet fiber.  The primary job of the flurochemical in Scotchgard™ is to resist dry soils, but it also helps keep
liquid spillage from actually getting to the acid dye blocker.

Soils in the carpet abrade the fibers and wear down the carpet yarns, making them look dull.  By resisting dry soil, more of the soil is picked up by
your vacuum and frequent vacuuming helps lift those soils from your carpet to keep it looking great.

DUCTZ carpet protector application:   We use High Quality carpet protectors, including Scotchgard™, and DUCTZ private branded versions of
Flourochemicals.  The protector is applied with a pressurized sprayer, dedicated to a single protecting agent assuring the protector is not cross
contaminated with any other cleaning agents.  Our technicians are fully trained in the proper application techniques.  We will groom your carpet as
part of the application service to give the protector the best penetration and coverage, and it ensures proper contact with all the yarns in the carpet
pile.

Questions folks ask about Scotchgard™ and other carpet protectors.
Q: Will my carpet be waterproof after a Scotchgard application?
A: Scotchgard Protector is not intended to be used as a waterproofing agent for carpet, however, it does provide improved resistance to water-based
substances.

Q: Is Scotchgard pet and child safe?
A: Yes, all Scotchgard carpet protector products go through extensive testing and have been safely used in homes for many years. Most new carpets
include Scotchgard protection right from the mill.

Q: Will water "bead up" on carpet that’s been protected?
A: Sometimes it will, but often the beading is not evident.  This can be caused by spaces between loosely woven carpet pile. It does not affect the
ability to resist stain and soils.  Most common household liquids can be easily blotted up even if the spill does not appear to be  beading.

Q: How should carpet featuring Scotchgard Protector be cleaned?
A: The primary, every day,  cleaning method is vacuuming with an upright vaccum with a beater bar that will agitate the pile while it lifts soils from
deep in the carpet.  You should blot up spills right away (using a blot technique rather than a scrubbing method). Immediate attention to spills and
spots will make removal easier.
The Scotchgard™ Protector Warranty requires that your carpet be cleaned by professional hot water extraction (steam cleaning)  at least every two
years. DUCTZ is qualified to professionally clean your carpet, and re-apply the Scotchgard protector.

Bottom line: Applying carpet Protector will result in your carpet looking better longer, and maintain it’s ability to be cleaned by vacuuming, as well as
professional cleaning and maintain your carpet’s original stain and soil resistance properties…It’s well worth it!
